About me
From Self-taugh Baker to Aspiring Chocolatier
Baking was part of my childhood. I remember watching my mom and “ouma” Kitty in our farmhouse kitchen making the most exquisite wedding cakes. They piped royal icing lace decorations so delicate and beautiful that it blew everyone’s mind away. I remember the awe of the brides and their parents when the cakes were set up thinking one day I will be doing something similar. But then life happened and I ended up in Real Estate and Bond Origination (which I dearly loved doing), but I always had this desire to create something special.
It was only after early retirement that I was able to start a small home-based bakery and I enjoy every moment in the kitchen from baking macarons for weddings (yeah you’re right – my childhood dream came true in a sense) to making flower cupcake bouquets and mouthwatering cakes – still using my mom’s recipes.
BUT restless as I am always seeking something new and challenging, I came across artisan chocolate on Instagram. For hours on end (like the little girl watching ouma) I watched master chocolatiers transform ordinary chocolate into masterpieces and I decided: “This is how I want to fill my days – creating artisan chocolate bonbons so deliciously different that it will blow people’s minds away. So, I did a course with world renowned chocolatier, Chef Kalle Jungsteadt, practising every technique to the letter, testing and tasting everything and experimenting with lots of ideas to ensure my chocolate bonbons are classics.
Chocolate is not just a treat…
It’s an experience.
